Kordia takes leading role in Vodafone rollout.
With world leaders extolling the virtues of increasing broadband capacity to meet user demands, Kordia is proud to have successfully designed and implemented the largest Vodafone transmission upgrade ever.
Hardware delivery and other constraints compressed delivery of 850 sites into a five and a half month window. Kordia upgraded 155 links per month over an operational transmission platform, without any disruption to the network.
Each Syncronous Transport Module Level 1 (STM-1) carried between 15 to 20 sites worth of traffic, making the potential risks on this program extreme. Typically, upgrades were completed in outages of only three hours during the low-usage period of 10pm to 6am. The compressed timeline also presented major challenges; from the volume management in detailed design, through the risks and rigours of the transmission upgrade to demanding equipment delivery timelines.
When ordering and receiving the appropriate equipment and materials for 700 sites across Australia in 10 days proved challenging, Kordia was quick on its feet directing its finance and administration teams to expedite the process and minimise any potential ‘lead time’ constraints.
