Power generation systems
Kordia has installed many power generation systems throughout Australia and New Zealand to support broadcast and communications equipment. The systems are in a wide variety of climatic and topographical conditions. They include power generation systems that use diesel, solar, wind, battery and hybrid options.
Kordia always carries out a full testing and commissioning regime for any power generation system. Successful factory testing of plant is a prerequisite before site delivery.
Site testing is also done under the design site load and ambient condition to check it is fully operational. Customers get an operation manual for the power generation system installed, which includes plant details and factory and site commissioning documents.
Kordia provides turnkey engineering solutions to many of New Zealand’s generation or lines companies. These include Meridian Energy, Mighty River Power, Transpower, Trustpower, PowerCo, Mainpower and Unison.
Kordia has delivered the following work on power systems:
- hybrid solar/diesel power generation systems located in the Australian desert at Wiluna in Western Australia and Charleville in Queensland for the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA). These systems include a 130-square meter solar array supported by three diesel generators linked via a control system
- design and implement replacement or additional diesel power generators at many Australian and New Zealand broadcasting sites
- microwave transmission sites – 50 to 750kVA
- design and develop complex switchboards and control systems to couple multiple generators, incoming mains AC and loads
- remote monitoring, start and control system design
- design, procure and install containerised gensets 30 – 100kVA
- ongoing operational support consultancy
- special renewable-diesel hybrid projects
- design and install a diesel/solar power system in Baucau in East Timor
- design and install a diesel/solar/wind power generation system in Oecusi in East Timor
- solar power generation systems for Telecom New Zealand
- solar-battery power generation systems at Hagan and Mt Albert Edward in Papua New Guinea for the Papua New Guinea Airways Corporation
- design and develop a continuous-run, dual generator and bio-fuel energy centre for Vodafone New Zealand. This centre is designed to operate at a high altitude remote site with no access during winter due to snow and ice.
